Kai is an AI companion app designed to provide personalized conversations, memory-based support, reminders, and proactive check-ins. To deliver this experience, Kai collects and stores certain information about you.
This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, how we store it, how we use third-party service providers, and your rights regarding your data.
By using Kai, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

Kai is not a medical, mental health, emergency, legal, or financial service. Kai does not provide professional advice, diagnosis, treatment, or crisis support of any kind. Kai is an AI companion app for general support, conversation, reminders, and personal reflection only.

Who Can Use Kai
Kai is intended for users 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has created an account or provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@withkai.app and we will delete the account or information as appropriate.
Information We Collect
Information you provide directly
- Name - what you would like Kai to call you
- Birthday - month, day, and optionally year
- Communication preferences - how you like to talk, what you need most, and your primary focus areas
- Conversation content - everything you choose to share with Kai in text or voice
- Goals, reminders, and check-ins - recurring accountability goals, reminder preferences, and schedules you set up
Information Kai learns about you
- Memory facts - facts Kai extracts from your conversations, such as your job, relationships, goals, preferences, life events, and habits
- People in your life - names and relationships of people you mention
- Upcoming events - dates and events you share with Kai
- Mood signals - informal personalization cues inferred from conversation tone. They are not used to diagnose, treat, predict, or assess any mental health condition.
- Conversation summaries - summaries created to help Kai remember important context across sessions
Information collected automatically
- Session data - how often you use the app, message counts, and session length
- Voice preferences - your chosen voice and speed settings
- Timezone - detected from your device to schedule notifications correctly
- Push notification token - required to send proactive check-ins and reminders
- Device preferences - text vs. voice usage patterns
- Subscription status - whether you have an active subscription, trial, renewal, cancellation, or entitlement
- Crash and performance data - technical logs used to debug and improve reliability
If you purchase a subscription or paid feature, subscription and billing information may be processed by RevenueCat and app store billing providers. We do not receive or store your full payment card information.
Information we do not collect
We do not access your camera, photo library, contacts, or precise location unless you explicitly grant permission or choose to share that information in the app.
We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell your data.
AI Processing and Memory
Kai uses artificial intelligence to generate responses, summarize conversations, and create memory facts from information you choose to share.
These memory facts may include your preferences, goals, relationships, routines, upcoming events, habits, and other personal details that help Kai personalize your experience.
AI-generated memories may not always be accurate. You can view, edit, or delete Kai's memories at any time in Settings → Privacy.
Mood signals are informal personalization cues inferred from conversation tone. They are not medical assessments, mental health evaluations, or diagnoses of any kind. They are not used to diagnose, treat, predict, or assess any mental health condition.
You should not share information with Kai that you do not want processed by AI systems or stored as part of your Kai experience.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information to provide, personalize, secure, maintain, and improve the Kai experience. This includes:
- To personalize conversations - Kai references what it knows about you to provide more relevant and personal responses
- To send proactive check-ins - Kai may reach out about things you have shared, such as upcoming events, goals, routines, or reminders
- To improve memory accuracy - conversation summaries and extracted facts help Kai remember important context across sessions
- To deliver notifications - push notifications for check-ins, reminders, and re-engagement
- To understand usage patterns - how you use Kai helps us improve the product experience
- To provide customer support - if you contact us with questions, issues, or privacy requests
- To maintain safety and prevent abuse - including moderation, fraud prevention, misuse detection, and enforcement of our terms
- To debug and improve reliability - including crash logs, errors, performance issues, and technical troubleshooting
- To comply with legal obligations - where required by law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request
We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell your data. Ever.
How We Store Your Information
Kai stores user data in Supabase, a secure cloud database provider. Data may be stored and processed in the United States or other locations where our service providers operate.

Third Parties We Share Data With
To provide the Kai experience, we share data with trusted service providers that help us operate the app.
- Anthropic - conversation messages may be sent to Anthropic's Claude API for AI response generation, summarization, and memory extraction. Conversation content may include personal information you choose to share.
- OpenAI - we may send voice audio, transcripts, text prompts, AI responses, and safety-related content to OpenAI to provide transcription, voice generation, content moderation, and related AI functionality.
- Supabase - Kai stores user data in Supabase's secure cloud database.
- Expo - push notifications are delivered through Expo's notification infrastructure. Expo receives your push notification token for delivery purposes.
- RevenueCat and app store billing providers - if you purchase a subscription or paid feature, billing and subscription management may be handled by RevenueCat. App store billing providers (Apple App Store, Google Play) process payments directly. We do not receive or store your full payment card information.
- Business transfers - if Bolona Labs LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, user information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Privacy Policy.
We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with third parties for advertising.
Your Rights and Controls
You have control over your data.
- View your data - go to Settings → Privacy → What Kai Knows to see the facts Kai has learned about you
- Delete individual memories - tap any memory fact in Settings → Privacy to delete it
- Delete all memories - Settings → Privacy → Clear All Memories removes learned facts and conversation summaries while keeping your account
- Delete your account - Settings → Delete Account permanently deletes your profile, memories, conversations, check-ins, and related account data
- Request account deletion online - visit withkai.app/delete-account or email privacy@withkai.app
- Request a copy of your data - email privacy@withkai.app to request a copy of the data we hold about you
- Opt out of notifications - go to Settings → Notifications to manage what Kai sends you
We will respond to privacy requests within 30 days.
Data Security
- Encryption in transit - data is transmitted using HTTPS
- Database protections - database access is protected by row-level security so your data is only accessible by your account
- Secure credentials - API keys and server credentials are stored server-side and are not exposed in the app
- Limited voice storage - voice recordings are processed for transcription and voice features. We do not intentionally store raw voice recordings after processing.
No system is completely secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us at privacy@withkai.app.
California Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, delete, correct, or receive a copy of your personal information. California residents may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and related laws.
You may exercise any of these rights by emailing privacy@withkai.app. We will respond within 30 days.
We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
International Users
Kai is operated from the United States. If you access Kai from outside the United States, your information may be processed and stored in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate.
By using Kai, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed outside of your country of residence.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app or by another appropriate method. The date at the top of this Privacy Policy reflects when it was last updated.
Continued use of Kai after changes are posted means you accept the updated Privacy Policy.
